The Holgate Story

The Holgate story began over twenty years ago, when Paul & Natasha Holgate started a small craft brewery in their local town of Woodend. In those days, the brewing happened in Paul’s shed, and the whole family pitched in to bottle and pack.

The Holgate Coat of Arms

The Bull forms part of the Holgate Family Crest, or Coat of Arms, associated with the earliest records of the name Holgate dating from the 13th Century.

The Holgate brewing company has taken this Bull as its mascot. “To me,” says Founder Paul Holgate, “the Bull represents both a link to and pride in our ancient name, and it also represents strength, power and a life force for which the bull is held sacred by many early civilisations. It symbolises the strength and power that we want our brewery to embody”.

You will find the Holgate bull on every Holgate product (in the brand logo) and also find the full coat of arms on Holgate ‘traditional-style’ products such as Pilsner, ESB and Hefe Weiss.
